■Half Hitch

A half hitch is a simple knot often used to temporarily secure an object.

For example, when passing an underwater camera from a boat or quay to a diver at the surface, the rope may be attached to the camera’s strobe arm using a half hitch.

Form the hitch by wrapping the working end around the object and passing it under itself. Pull tight to secure.
The knot can be released quickly by pulling the working end.

Wrap the rope around the object.

Pass the working end under the standing part to form the half hitch.

Completed.
The knot can be easily untied by pulling the working end.
