This technique lets you shorten and manage a long rope.
You can quickly lengthen or shorten it as needed.
It also helps you avoid getting tangled in the rope underwater while doing rope work.

Tie a bowline knot.

Bowline knot completed.
|

Pass your left wrist through the loop.
|

Grip the rope with your left hand and pull your left wrist out of the loop.

After you pull your left wrist out, you will have a loop on your right hand.
|

Put your right hand through the loop.
|

Grip the rope with your right hand and pull your right wrist out of the loop.
|

After you pull your right wrist out, you will have a loop on each hand.
|

Pass your left wrist through the loop again.
|

Grip the rope with your left hand and pull your left wrist out of the loop.
|

After you pull your left wrist out, you will again have a loop on each hand.
Repeat these steps to continue shortening the rope.

Finish by securing the end with a clove hitch. |
