■Basic Life Support Procedure
Basic Life Support (BLS) should be performed only by individuals who have received proper training.
If a person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, begin emergency response immediately and call emergency medical services.
Use an AED as soon as it becomes available.
① Check Responsiveness
Gently tap the person and speak loudly: “Are you okay?”
If the person responds, assess the situation and provide appropriate first aid.
Call emergency services if necessary.
② Call for Help
If there is no response, call for assistance immediately.
Ask someone to contact emergency services and bring an AED.
If you are alone, call emergency services yourself and retrieve an AED if one is nearby.
③ Position the Person
Carefully place the person on their back on a firm surface.
Remove clothing if necessary to allow emergency care and AED pad placement.
④ Check Breathing
Observe the chest for normal breathing.
If the person is not breathing normally, begin CPR and use an AED as soon as possible.
⑤ Recovery Position
If the person is breathing but remains unconscious, place them in the recovery position to maintain an open airway.
Keep the body warm until emergency personnel arrive.
⑥ Use of AED
Turn on the AED and follow the voice prompts.
Attach the electrode pads to the bare chest as instructed.
Ensure no one is touching the person during analysis and shock delivery.
Continue following AED instructions until professional help arrives.
⑦ Airway, Breathing and Circulation (Overview)
If trained:
• Open the airway.
• Provide rescue breaths using proper equipment.
• Perform chest compressions according to current recognized guidelines.
Continue cycles of compressions and breaths until:
• The person shows signs of life, or
• Emergency personnel take over.
For drowning victims, airway and breathing are especially important.
For sudden cardiac arrest of cardiac origin, circulation support is prioritized.
Always alternate compressions and breaths — never perform them simultaneously.
Proper hands-on training using certified manikins is required to perform these skills safely and effectively.
