Basics of search patterns
When searching for an object underwater, it is important to begin in the area where the object is most likely to be found.
Dive with your instructor using a U-pattern search.
In this exercise, you use a compass and change direction by 90 degrees at regular intervals.
After each change of direction, move forward a distance that slightly overlaps your previous field of vision.
