■Equilateral Triangle Navigation

Use your compass to navigate an equilateral triangle pattern.

Mark your starting point directly below you.

Select a clear target in your direction of travel.

Hold the compass level and align the direction-of-travel line with your target.

Rotate the bezel until the north end of the needle is aligned between the index marks.

Keep the needle centered and swim straight for 10 kicks. Stop.

Rotate the bezel 120 degrees counterclockwise.

Turn until the north end of the needle is centered again.

Swim straight for 10 kicks. Stop.

Rotate the bezel another 120 degrees counterclockwise.

Turn until the needle is centered between the index marks.

Swim straight for 10 kicks. Stop.

Confirm that you have returned to your starting point.

Once you can return accurately, increase the distance.
Select natural references and practice navigating without constantly looking at your compass.
