Blood accounts for approximately 8% of total body weight.
Significant blood loss can become life-threatening.
If bleeding occurs, it is important to control it as quickly as possible.
|
|
Bleeding can often be controlled by applying direct pressure to the wound using sterile gauze, a clean towel, or cloth.
Maintain steady, firm pressure until the bleeding slows or stops.
To reduce the risk of infection, wear vinyl or rubber gloves whenever possible.
If bleeding continues, increase pressure using both hands or by applying body weight carefully.
|
|
Applying firm pressure is effective. If possible, position the injured area above the level of the heart to help reduce bleeding.

■Precautions When Exposed to Blood
Blood may carry infectious pathogens.
To reduce the risk of infection, avoid direct contact and use protective gloves whenever possible.
After providing care, wash your hands thoroughly with running water and disinfect appropriately.
If blood comes into contact with open cuts or broken skin, seek medical advice promptly.
