When you hear the term “Nitrox,” you may think it is special equipment used only for advanced diving.
In fact, Nitrox (Enriched Air) is a breathing gas containing a higher percentage of oxygen than regular air.
Because Nitrox contains less nitrogen than air, it can help reduce nitrogen absorption during a dive.
When used correctly within proper limits, it may lower the risk of decompression sickness and extend no-decompression limits.
However, Nitrox also increases oxygen exposure, which means divers must carefully manage maximum operating depth (MOD) and oxygen limits to avoid oxygen toxicity.
Nitrox is not difficult to use.
With proper training and basic calculations, any certified diver can safely enjoy the benefits of Enriched Air diving.
