■Regulator set

Nitrox contains a higher percentage of oxygen. If a regulator set used for air is used with Nitrox without proper preparation, oxidation or even ignition may occur.

Regulator sets that will be used with Nitrox must be ultrasonically cleaned, and all parts that come into contact with Nitrox should be upgraded to oxygen-compatible components specifically designed for Nitrox use. However, some regulators are not suitable for Nitrox use. Check with the manufacturer or retailer to confirm whether your current regulator set can be upgraded for Nitrox.

If a regulator dedicated exclusively to Nitrox is used with air, it may no longer be suitable for Nitrox use afterward.

For safety and convenience, it is recommended to have both an air-only regulator and a Nitrox-only regulator.

■Nitrox compatible dive computer

During air diving, we use a dive computer that displays the no-decompression limit to help avoid decompression sickness. During Nitrox diving, we use a dive computer that displays both the oxygen exposure limit and the no-decompression limit to help prevent oxygen toxicity.

By entering the oxygen percentage of the Nitrox blend in advance, the dive computer can calculate and manage both the no-decompression limit and the oxygen exposure limit according to the specific Nitrox mixture being used.

■Tanks

Nitrox is filled into tanks equipped with oxygen-compatible components.

To distinguish them from air tanks, a large label marked "NITROX" or "ENRICHED AIR NITROX" is wrapped around the tank.

The large label is the identifying mark.

■Analyzer

An analyzer is a device used to measure the oxygen percentage in the tank before diving.

The oxygen percentage indicated on the tank label may differ slightly from the actual filled percentage, so always analyze the gas before diving to ensure safety.
