When observing marine life, follow these important guidelines to protect both yourself and the underwater environment.
Maintain proper buoyancy control and avoid contact with organisms on the bottom.
Careless behavior may not only damage marine life but could also result in injury.
- Maintain neutral buoyancy at all times.
- Secure gauges and accessories so they do not drag or hang loosely.

Do not touch corals
- Before settling on the seabed, check carefully to ensure there are no living organisms beneath you.

Be mindful of the sea floor
- Do not touch, chase, or collect marine life.
- If you turn over a rock to observe beneath it, return it gently to its original position.

Look, but do not disturb
- Wear appropriate exposure protection such as gloves and boots when conditions require.

Helps prevent injury
