To get your buddy’s attention at night, shine your dive light toward the diver’s body or into their field of view, then move the beam in a small side-to-side motion.
If the diver does not notice your light signal, gently touch your buddy’s arm to gain attention.
Avoid grabbing the diver’s fins or approaching from behind, as this may cause accidental contact with the fins.
Night diving hand signals are performed by illuminating your hand with your dive light.
When other divers are nearby, shine your light on your own chest and give hand signals in front of your chest. This prevents accidentally shining your light into another diver’s eyes.
Review and agree on one-handed signals before the dive.
In some situations, the movement of your light beam itself may also be used as a signal.
