When ascending, control your ascent rate carefully and ascend along the descent line or guideline whenever possible.

In areas with boat traffic, shine your light toward the surface before ascending. This alerts divers and boats to your position and planned ascent location.

During night dives or in limited visibility, it can be difficult to judge ascent speed visually. Monitor your ascent carefully by watching your exhaust bubbles with your light and checking your dive computer or depth gauge frequently. Maintain a slow, controlled ascent at all times.
