Risk Management

Duties and Responsibilities

In the Tourist Diver Course and Open Water Diver Course, open water training is conducted.
Be sure to decide the overall schedule and dive plan before recruiting participants.

■Dive Plan

Plan the diving points and dive profiles with reference to seabed topographic maps.

The maximum depth for open water training is deeper than 4 m and shallower than 20 m.

It is not necessarily required to guide divers down to 20 m.

Conduct open water training at safe and reasonable depths according to the skill level of the students.

What a C-card certifies is the skill level at a certain point in time; it does not guarantee future ability.

When instructing divers who have not dived for more than two months (and may feel uneasy in the water), conduct a refresher dive before the course in a pool or a calm shallow area of less than 4 m depth, and review basic skills such as mask removal and replacement, regulator recovery, and regulator clearing.

During periods of low water temperature or in dives with high physical activity, plan by estimating dive time and depth at 1.5 times the usual level.

Additionally, depending on the student’s constitution and physical condition, the risk of decompression sickness may increase even in dives that do not exceed the no-decompression limit.

Make a well-margined plan.

■Dive Itinerary

Decide the travel schedule.

Confirm important matters in advance.

① Meeting and dismissal locations and times

② Accommodation location and contact details

③ Capacity of the facility

④ Fees (what is included and not included)

⑤ Items participants need to bring

⑥ Cancellation policies for course fees, accommodation, and flights

Refer to seabed topographic maps.

Refresh in a pool or calm shallow water.

Do not plan dives with excessive physical activity.
