Assist rescue equipment is used to provide support to divers who are unable to return safely on their own.

All equipment should be inspected, maintained, and readily available before diving activities.

■ Throw Bag

A throw bag contains a floating rope stored inside a weighted nylon pouch.

The weight of the bag allows the rope to be thrown accurately over a distance.

With sufficient practice, a rope may also be thrown effectively without a bag.

■ Lifebuoy

A lifebuoy is standard safety equipment on boats and is used to provide immediate flotation support.

Some models are designed to automatically inflate upon contact with water.

In an emergency, alternative floating objects such as a cooler box may be used if a lifebuoy is not available.
