Before boarding or stepping off the boat, do a quick check to make sure you have not left any personal equipment behind.
Ask the crew for assistance when boarding and disembarking.
Step carefully—missteps can cause slips or a fall into the water.
Board and disembark with your hands free. Pass gear separately, working with the crew and other divers.
Once on board, stow and secure your equipment in your assigned area before departure.
Do not place your hands between the boat and the dock (quay).
Fingers and hands can be crushed if the boat moves with waves.
Keep clear of ropes, lines, and wires under tension.
If a line snaps or tightens suddenly, it can cause serious injury.
Keep clear of the anchor and anchor area.
Anchors are heavy and may have sharp or pointed parts.
Stay away from the windlass and moving equipment.
Loose clothing, straps, or fingers can be caught, causing serious injury.
Small boats may be unstable due to waves, wind, and current.
While the boat is moving, remain seated in a safe area as instructed.
Do not sit on the gunwale (side) or stand and walk around unnecessarily.
