Entry (1)

■ Entry

Follow the dive leader’s instructions and enter only when you are signaled to do so.

Small boats (Back Roll Entry)
On small boats, a giant stride is usually not practical. A back roll entry is commonly used.

While seated on the edge, secure loose equipment. Use your feet to hold the SPG (gauge) and alternate air source so they do not snag on the boat as you roll back.

For entry, hold your mask firmly in place and keep the regulator in your mouth.

Tuck your chin and keep the back of your head clear so you do not strike the valve on entry.

Hold gauge between feet

Secure the gauge between your feet.

Before entering, look and confirm the area is clear—no divers, boats, or floating objects below you.

Larger boats (Giant Stride Entry)
From a stable platform on a larger boat, a giant stride entry is commonly used.
