Position yourself slightly up-current of the team leader during the dive.

If you remain down-current of the leader, it may be difficult to see hand signals without turning against the direction of travel. Proper positioning allows you to monitor signals and enjoy the dive safely.

When pausing in strong current, maintain good buoyancy control. Avoid damaging marine life and avoid grabbing rocks unless necessary for safety.

If you lose sight of your buddy or team leader, search briefly (approximately one minute) while maintaining depth. If contact is not re-established, perform a controlled ascent to the surface according to lost diver procedures.

The boat crew may not immediately recognize that a diver has separated from the group, so your surfacing position may not be anticipated. Ascend carefully while monitoring for approaching boats.
