■Ascent

If the team leader is using a surface float with a line, use the line as a visual reference during ascent.

The team leader will usually ascend last while retrieving the line.

Do not pull or hold the line. If you tug on it, you may interfere with the leader’s ability to retrieve the line and may affect the group’s ascent control.
Use the line as a marker without touching it.

At the surface, stay with the group and remain close to the surface float while waiting for all divers to surface.

If the current is too strong to hold position safely for a stop, follow the dive leader’s instructions. Before surfacing, look and listen carefully and ensure no boat is directly overhead.
